Bad Marriage Mountain
Late afternoon light provides gentle illumination with which to view Bad Marriage Mountain (8350'—actual summit is back center). This nice view is next to the Cut Bank Campground. Photo by Vernon, June 23, 2008.

...the peak on the left is Mad Wolf? If you are, I need to change a caption for a picture on the Mount James page. Thanks!

I think you're right. This has always confused me, even when walking the trail. Don't change your caption on the James page—I'll change mine.

Bob, Jim...just received definite confirmation from a couple long-time and very knowledgable GMS folks that this is indeed Bad Marriage Mountain, with Mad Wolf being out of the frame to the left.

I wish I could see a bit left of where your photo ends! My initial reaction was that this peak is Mad Wolf. Having done the Mad Wolf/Eagle Plume/Bad Marriage circuit, I don't remember any other peak in this location. The falls coming out of the north side of the hanging valley east of Bad Marriage can be seen in your photo to the right of the peak in question. When I look at a topo, it makes me believe that the mountain on the left of your photo must be Mad Wolf although the summit is hidden. Eagle Plume is hidden.

Jim, see my comment above to Bob Sihler. The mountain is indeed Bad Marriage, with Mad Wolf out of sight on the left.

Vernon and Jim, I haven't got chance yet tp pull out my map and study it according to Jim's comments on this shot and on one of mine. I remember examining the map over and over, comparing the contour shapes to the scene even as I was hiking. I, too, think this is Bad Marriage and that Mad Wolf was to the left, but I still need to get out the map and look again. I do remember that the access ridge described for the circuit was clearly off to the left and that it did not seem to connect to the peak on the left in this picture.

Maybe we can settle this by doing the circuit in August! Actually, I'd like to do this one during my days at Rising Sun and have mentioned it to Blake already since he will be off work those dates.
