Appreciate the comments. The photo is from a race in '98, Angeles Crest, but the actual course didn't go to the summit, it turns right on another trail going SW just beyond the runner, only 200 or so feet from the summit.
In '99 I attempted the race again and that time I was went on on up to the summit, about 10 minutes overall out of the way, it was simply to close to go to a summit without summating it.
I thought the San Gabriels were a rugged and beautiful range. Each mountain range has it's character and I really enjoyed that range. The best views in the range in my opinion are right from that very spot. You look towards the east from there and there's a great view of Baden Powell.
I was going to upload a photo anyhow so while I'm at it I'll upload that image of Baden Powell as well. It's a favorite photo from the San Gabriels.
