Perfect Southern California day, at least in the mountains. Bagged Throop Peak first, then went on to Baden-Powell and bagged Burnham Peak on the hike out. 4 1/2 hours car to car.

Nice morning for a hike. Met my friend Miguel at the trail head, hiked to the summit and back. Then went back to my house to go over last minute details and sort gear for our upcomming trip to Pico de Orizaba.

Decided to go out and count the switchbacks up Baden-Powell. 2 1/2 hours round trip. Counted 40 on the way up and 41 on the way down. Go figure, guess I'll have to go back and recount.

Nice early spring climb, reached summit about mid-day. Lots of folks on the summit, but I was the only one with skis, making an awesome descent down to just above the road.

My climbing partner's dog loved it, too!
It did become quite a zoo by mid morning. Glad I got an early -- albeit later than Apline -- start!

Battling a cold, so I went slow. Started at 7 am, saw no one until I was almost down. Kind of tedious at first but up high the views really opened up and made it worth every step.

Had a great hike with my dog Motzie. We did not see anyone until we were walking off the top. Met a couple of guys doing the PCT. Good Luck Fireball. The sign in box at the top has no paper can the next one heading up take a note pad.

Have hiked it many times, this time was while hiking the PCT. The best route was from East Fork of the San Gabriel River, past the Bridge to Nowhere, to Vincent Gap and then down Islip to Bear Creek, a nice 3 day hike.

I hiked from Vincent Gap in the snow. 12-24" of soft snow on the mountain and the hike was slow going up. Windy on the summit.

I like taking my dogs on the section of the PCT from Dawson to Baden Powell. There aren't many people along that part and it may be the most beautiful section of trail in the Angeles.

395guy2 Eagle Scouts on Baden-Powell  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Aug 5, 2006

395guy

My brother, my son (7yo), and I hiked up Mt Baden-Powell from Vincent Gap. The three of us had our picture taken at the Baden-Powell monument on top... 2 Eagle Scouts and hopefully 1 future Eagle Scout. Perfect day for a hike 60s-70s and cloudless blue skies.

As we were leaving to head down the trail, we met a rather serious looking trail-runner. We discovered that this was Jorge Pacheco of Los Angeles who has won the Angeles Crest 100-mile endurance race 3x (2001, 2003, 2004). He was out doing a 40-mile training run (b2b with another 40-miler the next day). I had my picture made with him right at the Wally Waldorf tree (where Jorge was looking for some water bottles he had stashed). In the background of my picture, you can see the sign announcing this as the high point (9300') for the Angeles Crest 100. Really cool that I met him at this point.
