| Backpacked in to Baker Lake (excellent!), and climbed the slopes north of the lake at evening to the east summit. Didn't find any summit register, but I didn't have long to look as the sun was setting. There are some great pinnacles above the lake to scramble out on. | ||

| Climbed from Baker Lake trailhead via Baker Lake. Was surprised to find that I was only the 2nd person to sign the summit register in the past 2 years. I've climbed all the major peaks in the Snakes and this one appears to be the least visited. If you climb this one be sure to tag both summits as the east summit appears to be a few feet higher than the named summit at the west end. | ||

| Worked here on the GBNP trail crew. Climbed on quartzite rubble from the south (Baker Creek), always have to be watching for sudden T-storms in this awesome area. | ||

| Did it from the Baker/Johnson loop trail on a 3 day backpack, along with Pyramid peak. Not really difficult, just a long slog on talus. Did Wheeler/Jeff Davis, Bald Mtn 3 days earlier. Beautiful backcountry in GBNP! | ||

| Part of a Wheeler-Baker-Wheeler-Jeff Davis day, Little talus, interesting climb. When we reached the top of Wheeler for the 2nd time, a fellow asked Lori where we had been. She pointed to Baker, and he asked, "why?" and she said, "because it's there". | ||

| cp0915 | Route Climbed: traverse from Wheeler Peak Date Climbed: June 12, 2004 ![]() | |
| Nice route. I started out simply trying to grab Baker. When I tried to traverse across the west side of Wheeler at the 12,000 ft level, I realized the icy chutes were a little more than I'd expected in shorts, t-shirt and hiking boots. Though a little tedious at times, plan B (bagging NV's #4 directly from the summit of #2) worked out fine. While on the Baker traverse, I didn't see a soul, but when I popped my head back up onto Wheeler's summit on the return from the south ridge, I got shocked looks from some folks having lunch and taking pictures there. Apparently dumbstruck from the crowded Wheeler north slope route, they hadn't expected anyone to emerge from the mysterious and untraveled south ridge... | ||
