It's illegal to climb it-for that very reason!

It is not permitted to climb the balanced rock. However, this wouldn't stop some hard-core climbers and I have a suspicion that quite a few people have actually been on top of the balanced rock.

It has been climbed. I believe there's a route described in an out of print guidebook (Bjornstad's original desert guide) - I will double check.
