	Hasn't voted	Thanks! Yes, we did have it all to ourselves. I think we had that entire part of that canyon to ourselves, too. It was a great time to be there. The snow was easy to pass through or around, no bugs, and no people--it was just incredible.

Question about trail

The picture is so cool! Did you start from Rush Creek TH, or anywhere else?

We are backpacking to 1000 Island Lake this Memorial weekend. Can you share some trail condition, such as whether or not snowshoes necessary, any unfrozen lake/creek or we have to melt snow.

	Hasn't voted	Thanks! Yup, we hiked from Rush Creek. The most important gear to bring--snow-wise--are gaiters and ski poles. We brought snowshoes but did not use them. If you're doing some hiking around at around 11,000 ft or higher, the snowshoes might come in handy, but I don't know for sure since we only went as high as the lake. Same with the skeeter repellent: brought it but didn't use it. Patchy snow started at around 9,000 ft. I would guess that about 20% of the trail above 9000 ft had snow. Some postholing occurred, but nothing very deep. Some of the smaller lakes were ice-free, some weren't, but there was so much water available from melting snow that we didn't have any water issues. Plus, the shoreline around 1000 island lake was ice free during the day. I think it will be a great time to go! If you have any more questions, just ask!
