In the heart of the Orobie alps central group, the Barbellino lake (m.1862) is an artificial basin shaped by a dam in 1931, for hydro-electric exploitation, not far from the natural Barbellino lake (m.2128) where is the source of Serio river. During the summer season, the dam is sometimes opened for tourist attraction: the waters make an amazing fall (315 m.), the highest in Italy, second one in Europe. Curò hut (m. 1915), on the lake border, is a very important starting point for hikes and climbs in the surrounding mountains, the highest of Orobie alps. The lake and the hut can be reached from Valbondione, at the bottom of Seriana valley, along a good path (2.30 hours).
