Inside the cloud  Sucess!

I came back to the top two more times in the 90's and eventually saw the view. Pretty nice.

Trudging through Snowfields  Sucess!

The last 1/2 mile was a bit of an adventure. Many snowfields tried to turn us back. We made wise decisions not to cross directly on the steep slopes and chose instead to traverse over some boulders and pick areas to cross the snowfields where the danger was essentially gone. The last steep slope just before the summit was a bit challenging and we both boot ski'd the 20 feet back the the trail from there. Great hike, Great views and a nice problem solving summit with all the snow.

Hot day in October  Sucess!

With a huge air inversion over the PNW, it was foggy and cold around Puget Sound, but it was downright toasty on Bare Mountain. Strange to be so warm in October. Great Fall color.

Strange Day  Sucess!

I saw snakes, deer, a coyote, a rabbit, and we spooked a bear. This has been a good berry year and we picked more fat berries than ever before, today. After Bare we started the traverse to Lennox, but I slipped and fell on wet heather and re-injured my left shoulder. Bummer.

Too much brush

Long drive on dirt road, took much longer than expected. Also be careful of a recent washout. A friend and I just tried to do this trail. It was lightly raining which was not a big deal, but after about 30 minutes the brush was really thick along the narrow trail. Soon it was above our heads and walking through it was not pleasent as it soaked us pretty bad. We kept going for another 30-40 minutes and it didn't get any better. At a viewpoint it appeared it would be this way all the way to the summit. We decided to call it quits and come back earlier or later in the year. I'd love to go do this again this fall. It appears to be a great hike. I would just recommend if you go in July/Aug to be ready for the brush and wear enough waterproof gear that it won't bother you. Or bring a machete and chop it down as you go.

Multiple time offender  Sucess!

Every time I hike this peak something interesting happens.

July 10, 1998: I get hypothermic. I shook apart until my partner gives me his rain gear. First hike with Curt, and we still hike together.

August 22, 1999: I get to see my first bear in the wild. A yearling was grazing below the summit, and he never saw me.

September 2000: Hiking with my father in law, he has a heart attack. We eventually hike out, and he is still with us.

Nov 10, 2001: I went back just to see what would happen. Not much, just a nice hike.

Great adventure  Sucess!

Had to park the car a couple miles down the road due to a minor washout, which added some extra time and mileage to our trip. Otherwise, the trail is fun, has a neat stream crossing next to a waterfall, and enters into a beautiful valley. We did hit snow up near the top, which presented a few challenges, but wasn't too bad. Paradise Lakes are still frozen over, and all the surrounding peaks are covered in snow. A nice June day all in all.

Re: firs hike with Magellan

Yeah, I got hypothermia in the soaking wet 8 foot high ferns. I don't wear cotton anymore, even in July.

Awesome Hike With Breathtaking Views!!!  Sucess!

Although it seemingly took forever to drive to this trailhead, the rewards of experiencing the fantastic panoramic views from the summit were too hard to resist. A lot of wildflowers, huckleberries, and even some wild blueberries were found on the southern slope of the mountain. Highly recommended!!!
