Basalt Columns
Here is a good view, from below the cliffs, of the almost-sidewalk-smooth layout of the columnar joints on Compton Peak. I have seen joints like these in four places-- Yellowstone, Devil's Postpile National Monument, Devil's Tower National Monument, and here; and these are the easiest to access and in spite of that the least-known.
