Probably the toughest 5 mile hike I've done, but my wife and I had a fun time and the views were great.

Started way too late in the morning for this one (9:45am). It being late July by the time we made it to the summit (12:20pm) it was extremely HOT and the sun was starting to wear me down. Took in the breathtaking views for a good while and started heading back down at around 1:00pm. Unfortunately, this mountain is not just up and down; there are a few ups on the way down!. Long story short, getting back to the parking lot was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life due to running out of water halfway down. Had a great time going up though and wouldn't have missed out on that experience for anything.

With my dog, Luna. Neat hike. True about the false summits. It was pissing off my dog. :- ) Interesting nest of trails up top heading over towards the summit. Yucca plants took their ounce of flesh from my calf. Neat view of San Francisco peaks and Fay Canyon pinnacles. Not really worth the bushwhack for the extra 100 feet though. We got close and decided to head back to meet my wife for beers in Sedona (well, not Luna, only I had the beer- King Crimson Ale at Oak Creek Brewery. Good seasonal ale!). I wondered how much elevation you end up getting with all the ups and downs on this one.

Awesome and then scary ... we didn't budget time very well hiking this in the winter, and the extended stay at the summit taking in the views turned into a scary descent in the dark with a 2 month old on chest. Without headlamps, we surely would have slept out there.

Ouch. Despite the fact that the summit is less than two miles away from the end of the trail, it's a long, bloody, painful distance. Still, great way to escape the heat!

My girlfriend and I started the hike later in the day so it was quite hot in the canyon at the beginning of the trail, but after we got out of the canyon and headed toward the summit it began to rain and the wind was very nice. Overall a great hike with wonderful views but I'd avoid it on hot days.

Awesome views and there was still a bit of snow left on the mountain, which made our dog very happy.
Here's the slideshow from our hike up there: Bear Mountain

First of four peaks that day. This was the prettiest of them all.
