Great summit and a steep hike close to town. Used this as a training hike, so the cool summit was a bonus.

My second mountain ever! Steep at the top but well worth the pain.

Always a fun climb, ski poles and crampons aren't a bad idea in the spring, as icy conditions can make the top slow and trecherous. Decent via west ridge make the hike much longer.

I have climbed Bear probably 4 or 5 times. This is a fairly easy hike, with great views of the indian peaks as well as boulder.

For the few months I lived in Boulder, I climbed this peak about once a week just for fun. I lived a few blocks from the trailhead at the end of Baseline. From there it's about a 5 mile R/T and maybe 3,000 elevation gain. Hot and dry in the summer, subzero in the worst parts of December/January. Beautiful under all circumstances. If you're ever in Boulder and have a few hours free, walk this trail. You won't regret it.

The weather reports predicted rain, but it was a beautiful day, though there were some clouds building over the Indian Peaks to the west. I had heard that Bear was pretty tough for such a "low" peak, and I was not disappointed. Upon entering Shadow Canyon, the trail is relentlessly steep and rocky all the way to the pass. I shared the summit with a group of Mormon missionaries. There's not a whole lot of room on the summit. After climbing Bear, I headed on over to South Boulder Peak.

Should've left a little earlier. Left at 6:00 from Chataqua and climbed South Boulder and Bear Peak.

Awesome training climb! A true workout at over 3000' elevation gain (with S Boulder Peak) over just a few steep miles. I got chased off the summit by lightning; I recommend respecting this mountain more than I did by getting an earlier start.

I've climbed this peak more times than I can count. But with a special event on the summit, this is a climb of Bear Peak I'll never forget.

Having lived in Boulder for a month or so, I figured I was in shape and could make it up my local 'hill' without much trouble. I was wrong! 2500 vertical feet in under 2 miles is nothing to sneeze at. But the view from the summit was spectacular and I had the place entirely to myself. Descended via the West ridge under increasingly clouds.

Did a trail run with a friend. Was suprised by the steepness in the canyon but very impressed with the views from the top.

I have probably been up Bear Peak some 50 times at all times of the year. Indeed when I knew no other mountians I motored up to Boulder to climb Bear 3 or more times a week. I have seen it on summer afternoons covered with ladybugs and on cold winter inversions when Boulder isn't at all visable. I have been up it with friends with family with dogs and solo.

Definitely a great training climb. The Shadow Canyon Trail will get the legs burning on a non-stop ascent.

An excellent hike with a fun mild scramble near the top. A bad hike if you have a fear of mountain lions ripping your body to shreds, but at least its not an 12-hour torture-thon. Great views of Boulder and Denver, plus the Indian Peaks to the west.
