Between 10 and 11000 feet in the California and Nevada high mountain areas, the Bristlecone pine rules. These ancient trees are thousands of years old and the rest of the trees you see in this pic, on the way to Charleston's summit are all Bristlecones.

400 years!

Also, of note, that big branch on the ground at bottom-left has probably been laying there like that for 400 years! The wood is so resinous and compact that it is very slow to rot.

I'm glad you pointed that out. It is an amazing feeling to walk in the midst of these trees (as I know you know) I think I was in awe most of the time I was in the Wheeler and Charleston bristlecone forests.
