| Submitted by Michael Lindacher Excellent winter day. Fifth summit, first in winter. Probably one of the best approaches in the entire Adirondacks. Good stuff. I was even treated to a good laugh as the indominable Chris Pierz fell into a frozen river. It wasn't so bad, we only had a 4 mile walk out. Nice move Chris !! | ||

| Beautiful fall day. The leaves vary depending on the elevation. Everything above 3,000 ft. were brown and falling down, everything in the valleys are full of colors. It will ideal if for photos if snow falls on the peaks this week, with weather forcasts in the low 20's at night this week, so snow is possible. As noted in other posts, the trail up the Brothers is well worth the hike. It could be argued that this is one of the best views for the least amount of work in the 'dacks. But this trail starts up right away and is a steady climb the whole way. This trail should not be under estimated. Many outlooks all along the trail with superb views of the Great Range. At different points, you can see from Porter all the way to Algonquin. | ||

| My wife and I had a beautiful day for this hike, and I think it's my favorite trail so far. A lot of good hiking out of the trees, bringing some great views along the way. The summit views of the Great Range were fantastic. We started out from the Garden over the Brothers to the summit, which is about 4 miles of moderate hiking. On the way down we took the Big Slide trail to the Johns Brook Trail (2.3 miles), then back to the Garden. About a nine mile trek in about 5 hours. A really good day hike. Capped it off with a couple of Ubu ales and some artichoke/spinach dip at the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery. | ||

| This is definitely the right way to climb Big Slide, via the Brothers. There are easily gained, closeup views of the Great Range en route. The ups and downs are arduous, but well worth-it. Great views from the top, feels like you're in the middle of it all. I took the Slide Mtn Brook trail back for a longer, gradual decent. Clear, warm day. | ||

| My buddy Bob and I marched up Big Slide on Saturday, January 10th, 2004. We camped at Grace Camp, run by the ADK Mtn. Club. The night before was -20 below zero, and the daytime high was about 5 degrees F. We started at 10 AM. The climb is easy at first with a moderate grade. About a half mile in you reach a clearing which is in the summer, a rock face that water trickles over. It was all ice with snow over top. The clearing is a great place for catching a bite to eat and admiring the view of Gothics on the other side of the valley. The climb continues on at a little steeper grade. (It appears that the closer you get to the summit, the steeper the trail gets.) At one point you come to the base of the fairly steep section. It's densely wooded with small and large pines. Continue up this steep section until you get to the base of the summit which is .29 miles away from the top of the summit. Here it gets VERY steep. You MUST have snow shoes or crampons to climb this section. Once you get to the summit there is a natural rock face clearing with a 260 degree view of the mountain range. You can see Algonquin to your right and Gothics straight ahead across the Johns Brook Valley. An awesome hike. We hiked back down the way we came because the trail that traversed Yard Mtn would have added 2 miles to our trip and we wanted to get back to Grace camp before dark. | ||

| Rented camp peggy obrien and brought some friends in for some backcountry. First date with my soulmate. Rode from the summit, and had an incredible weekend. Fell through ice and ripped off my thumbnail. Loved every freakin' minute of it. | ||

| This is a phenomenol hike! In August the blueberries on the Brothers complement the views of the Great Range very nicely! The outstanding thing about this hike is the large bald areas that contain great views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The view from Big Slide is also a classic. There are also a couple of overlooks where you can look over the edge of the Big Slide if you are unafraid of heights! This hike is one I would definitely take a visitor on to introduce them to the Adirondack Mountains because this hike has just about everything that is good about these mountains. | ||

| A modest Day hike to a great summit with great views south to the Great Range. We did this as a family hike (two kids and two dogs) and we had great fun getting the dogs over the steep upper slopes. Overall a faily easy human hike, with a long boring hike out near John's Brook lodge. Better to go up the brothers and back out the same way. More views that way. | ||

| See Drazil“s description. Strenuous, long, but enjoyable loop with great views, just one last mean ascent too much, when already expect to return to Woodland Valley Campground! Anyway, good exercise! | ||
