Did this from JBL. Big Slide offers an unrivaled view of the Great Range, not to be missed summit. Had it to ourselves.

Climbed as a warmup to Gothics after a long drive to LP. Got a late start so walked the last hour in pitch black. Rained sideways the whole way. Good views of Armstrong and the Wolf Jaws but Gothics was shrouded in with clouds. Bringing my son back to do this one...

Climbed via Big Slide Mountain Trail from the Garden. Definately one of the most senic hikes in the Adirondacks. The views of the Lower Great Range were fantastic and the summit ledge was a great place to have a well-deserved snake. Descended via Garden trail to John's Brook Lodge.

Snowshoed the whole way, good conditions. Cramp-ons not necessary. Summit was socked in with clouds and snow unfortunately.

Up the Brothers (awesome trail) to Big Slide, over Yard, and down through Klondike Notch. This requires a pickup at South Meadow. Not especially interesting on the way down, but long and easy on the knees.

Weird sunny day with the pressure dropping all day until about 5 pm. Lots of wind at 3,700 to 2,000 feet, but no wind at all on the summit. Trails in good conditions, well packed, with only a little ice. The warm weather, however, is creating postholing opportunities if you don't wear snowshoes.

Via Brothers and then return via Johns Brook. Amazing views all over. Great weather and a great, easy climb. Crampons needed in some spots.

Up the steep trail to Yard Mountain then accross to Big Slide. Amazing views of the Great Range. Then we decended on a very icy and challenging (no crampons) trail. Descending the slabs on Three Brothers in the dark by headlamp we heard wolves howl - perfect.

The so-called "winter" conditions were disappointing. Wore crampons from the trailhead to the summit... basically ice the entire way. So little snow that leaves were mixed in at lower elevations. Strange weather this year in the 'Daks.

Snowy on top, but we got some snatches of the view toward the North Face of the Gothics which was coated in snow and rime. We hiked over to Yard mtn and down to the Klondike leanto for a cold and wet night. The boots froze solid by morning.
