All......  Sucess!

It took me almost 12 years to complete all important Bijele and Samarske stijene peaks.
Always avoiding 'Vihoraski put' because it is demanding and longlasting.
With this last trip few days ago through 'Vihoraski put', this task has been done. It was a day with bad weather, rain was comming and going through the whole day. And my wife wasn't happy about that fact.
No doubt that I'll come again to this area, many many times, because of their beauty, wilderness and uniqueness.

Route Climbed: Bijele Stijene from Klanac Kostura  Sucess!

The decision was to start from the road Mrkopalj-Jasenak near Klanac Kostura, strait to the Boce (about 1-1,5 hrs of walking). Then we continued directly to the Mountain hut Bijele Stijene, where we rest a bit. Next step was Bijele Stijene main summit (from the hut it take s about 20 min). Great view!! We closed this trip with interesting path Vihoraški Put.

Route Climbed: Northern group of Samarske Stijene  Sucess!

We started from the 13th km of Mrkopalj-Jasenak road, where we left our cars and agreed to continue directly to the main summit of Samarske Stijene (it took us abt 40 min). After a short break we resumed with the round path which leads throughout most interesting valleys and rock formations of this northern group. Therefore we climbed Stepenica (eng. Stair), Piramida (eng. Pyramid), and Veliki Kanjon (eng. Great Canyon). Finaly we reached Ratkovo Skloniste, which is a nice refuge, where you can sleep over. From this point we descended back to our cars.

Route Climbed: Bijele stijene traverse Date Climbed: June 17th, 2001  Sucess!

It was a nice hike. With my leg, wounded on a basketball game, I chose a 'less demanding' tour. We left bicycles on one point of the road, drove further, left our car there and started a hike. Nice woods, great rock formations, soon we reached the main summit. Unfortunately the weather deteriorated, it started to rain lightly. Still, we continued the traverse of Bijele stijene, carrying the whole equipment to spend a night there.

Crossing slopes above a small valley I suddenly spotted a big animal, running joyfully some 50 meters away, and down the valley. 'Great, I've never seen a wild boar so far', I thought. Then I looked better and - it was a bear! A true bear! Perhaps not yet fully grown, but a beautiful animal, seen in wilderness. Soon an anxiousness replaced the enthusiasm. 'Is it with mother? If yes, where is she?' Jasmina comfortably continued by the path, entering the ravine, where the beast came down. 'If it is with mother, then she is already ahead', Jasmina, the great master of Velika Kapela's bears positions, concluded. So we continued our hike and I was the whole day long seeing bears behind each corner of these wild rocky mountains.

Because of bad weather we concluded the hike in one day, not going into Samarske stijene. They still stay in my list of wishes.
