Bird's Nest-- Scrambling Route

Bird's Nest-- Scrambling Route

This system of ledges and ramps right (upstream) of the Eagle's Nest face is really the only thing beyond Class 2 that your average unroped climber can do safely and sanely at the Bird's Nest crag. I found the scrambling to be somewhere around that vague line between Class 3 and Class 4. The exposure may look a little bad in this shot, but it really isn't, though there are spots here where carelessness could result in a serious fall. The Potomac River is visible to the right, but this route is not directly above the river. Great Falls, VA-- September 2007
