Got to the TH at 8:30 on a Wednesday, only saw one person as I was coming back downhill. Come on a weekday and you're probably not gonna see too many people.

Via summit trail
Hiked up solo after summitting Shasta with Morgan. The trail was pleasant and topped out in the the ruins of a lookout tower. Someone painted a huge yellow smiley face on a rock inside the foundation; pretty strange :p

Steep and beautiful
Easy in the summer, not so much in the winter. I have been within 100 feet and surrendered to the my weakness of steepness with snow.

Black Butte
Hiked with my step son Michael...this trail is rated moderate which o.k. I get it.. but it is a bit more difficult than that! It took us about 75 minutes to get to the top which offers great views! While taking in the views a couple in their 60s joined us as we discussed the moderate rating...which they couldn't believe as they were spent and needed a long rest. Really not a hard hike but a bit challenging given the rock sections and continuous uphill trek. Lots of work went into this trail! Amazing some of the trails and thank you to the people who built them!

Lovely little climb. 1 Hour up, 30 min run down. Went up after hiking out of Hidden Valley BC. It was nice to see the previous day's climb.
After some AM turns in Avy Gulch, did this as quick hike before driving home. Thoroughly enjoyed the views of Shasta and other Cascade volcanoes from the summit.

rest stop hike
I took a break on my drive from Susanville, CA to Coos Bay, OR to hike this one. It added 3 hours to my trip but was well worth it. I really lucked out on the weather conditions - especially for February. I saw 4 other groups of people along the trail.

Finally!
I was born in Mount Shasta, lived in Weed, come back to visit relatives, and only now, at 56 years of age, do I finally climb this mountain after thinking about it for years. A great hike, breathtaking views, and I can't wait to come back for round 2.
Awesome solo hike. I stopped to break up the drive from Bend to SF. Way easier than I expected as the trail is well graded. I'm a slower hiker and it took 1 hr 40min to the top. There are some talusy sections that could chew up an ankle if you aren't careful (I was sensitive to that as I'm recovering from a bad sprain), but otherwise super straightforward. Freaking awesome view of Shastina and the West Face Gully...

Maybe the best effort/views ratio I've ever hiked. Gorgeous views of Shasta and Mount Eddy the entire way up a path that's just tough enough to be interesting, but graded enough to feel safe on slopes that would otherwise be a huge chore to get up. There's a very brief, very exposed move just as you reach the summit, but you can bypass it by going down and to the left instead, along what looks like it used to be an actual trail. A bit less scary that way. Of course, the exposure might not be scary at all if you get up there on a day without 30-40mph wind gusts...

Trail is easier and more forested than it appears from highway. Varied and interesting views, great training hike!

Christmas Morning hike
Gorgeous Christmas Day hike to view the snow-less Mt Shasta. Other than starting out in 27 degrees, conditions were more like August than December.

Standard Route
Always impressive looking, even next to Shasta, as it jumps right out of the earth. My hat's off to the folks who built the trail. I wouldn't know where to begin though in giving driving directions to the trailhead. Just proud of my street-lovin' Honda Civic for getting me there.

Christmas Summit!
Perfect day!! A little chilly in the shade, and some hard packed snow/ice where you would expect it. About 3 hours round trip...glad I took my ice axe, but trekking poles would have probably been better.

summer afternoon
Had a nice after-work hike up the Butte. Only saw one other hiker this tuesday afternoon. Definitely worth the couple hours to do it. Great views. The first mile or two on the access road are washboardy pretty bad - don't let that stop you.
