| First ascent was with my brother, and the second was with my future wife. I remember trying to climb the lookout on the 1976 ascent, made it about 40 feet up and chickened out! | ||

| This was the only mountain that was totally visible in the clouds so I decided to climb it. The Central Cascades were being hit by a storm. I still had a good view though. There is a fire lookout and other buildings on the summit. | ||

| calebEOC | Picked up a hitchhiker ![]() Date Climbed: Jun 17, 2006 | |
| Found a tick on my leg, first one I have picked up since I was a little kid ages ago. Other than that I made sure to feed the gluttonous chipmunks at top and play in the 10 foot wide snowpatch that remained on the north side of the mountain. Could make out Adams today, first time I have been able to see it from Central Oregon. Took my ex-fiancees girls along for the hike, they have been dying to hike Black Crater, but this had to do for today. 08/06/06 Hiked up in the evening to see if Black Crater Forest Fire was still visible. Could only see smoke plumes, looked like the fire is largely out. | ||

| A great family climb for Memorial Day Weekend...a little chilly at the top, when the sky turned grey and the wind started blowing. Snow in patches with pieces of ice falling off of the lookout. Fun to finally get to the top of that "big hill" we always pass on our way home from Central Oregon! | ||

| Mr. Clam | Route Climbed: Road/Bush wack ![]() Date Climbed: Mar 20, 2006 | |
| I thought I was just going on a 2 hour hike to the summit, but when I got to the road that leads to the trail head it was coverd in snow. I decided to hike along the road which started out with light snow, but eventually i was sinking knee deep. After the 5 mile hike to the trail head i was running out of time and decided to just head strait up the mountain to the summit. This proved to be a long bush wack through deep powder (up to my waist in some spots), and to top it off i was wearing dress pants and fishing boots. When i finally summited it started to snow. I would recommend summiting when there is less snow. | ||

| Nice hike but no views due to clouds obscuring everything. Hit snow at the 6000 foot level. I'll have to take my wife to this one as its the kind she likes. | ||

| I was lucky enough to summit before the major weather system got here. Fog, wind, & ice pellets at the top. I couldn't take my camera out of the case. The road to the trailhead was already snow covered before this last system so it'll be a while before the trailhead is accessible. | ||

| There was no snow here so I don't know why I climbed this. Guess I had an itch. I might need some cream for that. | ||

| Hot afternoon. The road up sucks. One of the more washboard examples I've found. At the most sun-exposed part of the hike, I looked up to see 4 vultures literally circling over me about 30 feet up. I gave them my best Monty Python "I'm not dead yet!" Up to the summit in 50 minutes. Swarmed by chipmunks as I sat trying to eat. They actually jumped into my lap and sat up and begged for food. Fat little suckers. That tactic obviously serves them well. Saw some cool lizards on the trail on the way down. Great views of Jefferson on top. Back down in like 40-45 minutes. | ||

| This peak is interesting because it is the 19th most topographically prominent peak in Oregon. It was the first of three of Oregon's "50 Finest" that I did on July 31, followed by Paulina Peak and Hamner Butte. On the next day I did Mt. Scott and Mt. Bailey, also on the 50 Finest list. Up in 54 minutes. | ||

| February, 2003 - Road to the trailhead was snow covered but driveable. I brought snowshoes, but did not need them due to an established boot path. mediocre views due to clouds. June, 2004 - Decided to do this again on my back from central Oregon. Had great views from Bachelor to Adams, and saw a nice sunset. I saw about 10 other people in the 2 hours I was there. very dusty trail. | ||

| Cornvallis | Route Climbed: South side from HWY 20 Date Climbed: April 6, 2004 ![]() | |
| Decided to bush-whack my way up the south side from HWY 20. Probably my worst idea ever. Parked at Black butte Ranch, crossed the highway, and headed up. It has always looked so easy, I was wrong. Thick manzinita, deep pine needles, and steep slopes. Almost gave up about 600 feet from the top due to thick brush, but kept pushing on some how hoping I would meet up with the trail any minute. Finally connected with the trail and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way up. Plenty of snow up top. Amazing views from the summit area, one of the best in Central Oregon. Fought my way back down through the brush, slipping and sliding all the way in the deep pine needles. Got back to the car filthy, tired, and scratched up. Never thought Black Butte could be such a tough climb! :-) That route should never be taken again, or even mentioned! | ||
