| Was camped off of Hwy 14 on the Last Chance Canyon Road. Drove all of the way out to follow the HPS #1 route and then back (about 50 miles). Realized as I was coming back that the road I camped on was the same one I drove to Colorado Camp. Could have saved a lot of mileage (but probably not the time). | |

| Beautiful short cross-country hike to the crater and summit from the south side. We drove the rough dirt road in Mesquite Canyon pretty far up to the rain collector. The total elevation gain to the summit from that point was about 1,300 feet. Gorgeous views from the summit to the Southern Sierras, the Panamints, and over the Mojave. | |
