Something to do.  Sucess!

I needed something to hike for a few hours and this is what I found. I am hard pressed to find any excitement in relation to this summit. The only thing that I liked was the fact that I could look at the Easter Sierra from afar and admire it. Sort of; the smoke generated from the fires in Mammoth filled up the entire valley, creating a huge haze. The road to the trailhead is a nice challenge. I'd strongly advise not driving a sedan on that road. There are a few stretches where a sedan will remain suspended. Many other places where the undercar will suffer greatly. The upper half of the road is so narrow, one better prays there is no car coming from the other direction. Also, there is no way of turning a car around during the upper part, save from the end of the road, at the mine. As far as hiking the mountain, nothing spectacular. A lot of route finding. There is a trail, but very faint and at times it just disappears. I made my own way almost the entire time. I went first to the East summit and then I hit all summits to the West summit, just to make it more interesting. On the way back I almost did not find where I left the car. There are so many old roads going in all directions. Thank goodness my phone worked and I was able to look at Google maps and locate myself and the car.

Excellent Ridge Traverse  Sucess!

Thanks for the great route description. Rather than drive all the way to the mine I parked by the first knob and traversed over to the mine (about an hour). Hung out with the Bristlecones too!

South Ridge  Sucess!

Quick windy day of climbing this peak and enjoying the solitude. Lots of Ravens and ladybugs on the summit.

Desert Stroll  Sucess!

Was looking for a short dayhike for a workout and an excuse to get out to enjoy the nice day....pleasant stroll, nice desert landscape as usual. Beautiful summit views. The area is surprisingly peaceful being so close to the road. Reminds me why it is so nice living in a small town setting-barely any traffic or noises. Nothing but pure peace and quiet-good for the soul.

wandered over to the east summit and back down the east summit's south ridge for a loop-hike.

Nice spring hike  Sucess!

Nice day for a hike, no one else up there. No snow. Would like to come back here in the fall for a nice pinyon harvest. Among the bristlecone found 1 limber pine.

From the mine  Sucess!

With Matthew and Jeff, much nicer weather here than the Sierra this day. Trip Report

Views are worth it  Sucess!

Scrambled straight up from the mine (what's the story there? lots of equipment that looks recent but the sign says abandoned mine hazard). Signed register on false peak then scree-skied down to the ridge line and followed to the top. Found use trail on return that took us around the false peak and avoided the slog back over it. Great views, short hike, relatively easy road for average SUV/truck.

From the mine  Sucess!

Bob and I had a long outing to Hooper Peak the day before (why this obscure peak? don't ask), and drove down to Bishop to meet Jeff for Trapezoidal. High winds and cold temperatures convinced us to go do something easier instead as a warmup for Goddard. This was our choice. We weren't expecting much, but found some superb views of the Palisades--skies were unusually clear because of the wind. This is a good short, acclimatization peak.

from the east (mine)  Sucess!

Nice, easy peak with my mom. Great views of the Palisades from the summit.

Eh, good training at least  Sucess!

Not an exciting mountain but a good work out when starting from the valley floor. View is pretty nice though.

Miners' Road to trail from the east  Sucess!

Flipping through the summit register, I noticed the common theme of nakedness. I'm not an exhibitionist by any means, but the place was quiet and very hot and I could imagine how lovely it would feel to peel off sweaty articles and make a nest out of them to enjoy the view. Alas, it wasn't to be (this time). Jon and I rushed home to our cold beers instead.

Nice Afternoon Stroll  Sucess!

Robin and I headed up in the afternoon with the prospect of an easy peak bag. We weren't disappointed. Unfortunately it was a hazy day, so the summit photos didn't turn out so well.
