The BOMB!  Sucess!

Interesting peak with the plane wreckage. Climbed up through the boulders to the actual summit.

No go

Fresh snow from the day before made this climb too difficult for me. After slipping and sliding my way up the steepest section, I turned around several hundred feet below the summit. Still a beautiful day in the mountains. Encountered some moose by Lake Helen on the way up and on the way back down. I'll be back.

didn't see the bomber  Sucess!

In 2000 I spent a week at Mistymoon Lake. I hiked up Cloud and then Bomber a few days later. The view of Cloud Peak is awesome. I remember the hike up Bomber as having more boulder fields to walk upon then almost anywhere. It is almost like you don't see dirt, only solid chunks of rock. A great hike in a beautiful area. Cloud Peak was busy, I did not see a soul on Bomber Mtn, but I did not see the bomber wreckage either.

Re: didn't see the bomber

The wreckage is due north from Lake Florrence if I remember correctly. The wreckage is not on the summit. :)

soda straw coloirs  Sucess!

there are 3 narrow ice coloirs on N. face. I have no idea how many times they have been climbed. Bill Alexander and I did one in 1997. Who wants to do the others? These features may not always exist. I have seen them in winter and in June. It was water ice at the top. Call Clay Jenkins 307-674-8847 to do the next two.

bomber Mountain take 1

almost successfull, but could not find the wreck. Went up north east of lake forence, then mostly north stopped when the mountain did, at 12,800. Saw later there is a 12840 point west of where I was about 1/2mile. Suspect wreck is over on the western ridge. Darn that bomber mountain top is large. Going back in 2008 to try again.

Re: bomber Mountain take 1

Did you find the wreckage in 2008? Do you know are there maps available for the climb to bomber mountain? Thanks Greg.

Through Florence Lake

It was a harder climb than Cloud Peak which we did the day before, but it was very rewarding.

Route: Florence Lake then N Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed it after seeing the B-17. Went up the wrong summits 2 times and finally found the right one and signed the register.

I did a speed hike up to the bomber shot some pics and back in about 8 hours from Bald Ridge. The route was shorter than going in through West Tensleep, but I think slower due to rough jeep road in and the extra elevation gain on the way out.
