The Wildhorse Trail Crew and I summited via the standard Chicken-out Ridge route. It was a fun experience for all.

Three hours up, one hour fourty min. down. Had to dodge through boy scouts and other crowds coming down...
A very nice climb with some easy 4th class and nice views and interesting all the way. I love how direct the trail is....have you ever climbed Humphrey's in Arizona?

After seeing that labor day's weather left the mountain with some snow, we went prepared. When I got their I couldn't have asked for better conditions. No snow, not hot, not cold, little to no wind. It was as perfect of a day as you can get.

Caleb EOC and I were on are second day second Idaho 12er' We enjoyed a beautiful but cool day on Hyndman peak the day before. We did learn a weather front was moving in but came along way and waited to see what would come of the following day. it started out overcast but seemed worthy of proceeding. we found the trail to be as steep as advertised and enjoyed the view of the prarie below between cloud breaks. we scrambled above treeline and enjoyed the walk along the exposed ridge. The weather was deteriorating though and by the time we arrived around 11,400ft, we decided it was not worth the risk. There were others that proceeded up Hmmm. On the descent we were blown away by the amount of snow that accumalated on the lower mountain and at the trailhead. The Lost river range transformed into this porceline wilderness. Good times.

Great third class route over Chicken Out Ridge. Had beautiful weather and could see for miles. They aren't kidding when they say this mountain is steep.

Great mountain and beautiful views. I guess the people who made the trail on the lower portions never heard of switchbacks.

Climbed with Holsti97, beautiful summit around 1100. Chicken out ridge was fun scrambling. Snow bridge was icy in the morning but better snow conditions on the descent. Steep would be an understatement of this route. HP #7.

Attempted Borah eight years ago but was unable to summit. Couldn't have picked a better day to enjoy the stunning view from the top.

My first high point climbed.

Took 3.5 hours up, 3 hours down. Tons of people on the mountain.

Also, Chicken Out Ridge has a pretty easy trail around it on the West side now.

Since there is nothing new that can be said about Borah, I will throw out a quote from John Wooden:

Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability.

Went a few years ago up standard route. My friend Miguel came into town up and wanted to climb it - we decided to do the North Face. Ended up doing the North Face Direct route. 17.5 hours car to car.
Snow was not consolidated. Used pickets (more to make us feel better) and simu-climbed until we reached the coloir. Two belays to the main ridge and then another to the summit.

Great hike, 5 hours RT, then that evening climbed Hyndman Peak, another 5000 foot gainer, 12 miles RT. Try that. Trip report, maps and pictures at http://www.willhiteweb.com/state_highpoint/idaho/borah_peak_211.htm

Triad doing it in the winter and it was a bit much for me. Came back with my fiance and tackled it.

Climbed with fellow SP member Bluebell08. Camped at trailhead and started climb at 5:30 AM. Was a strenuous climb. Chicken Out Ridge didn't seem that bad. The loose scree near the summit was more troublesome. One step forward and then slid two steps back. We had perfect weather. Met some neat people on the hike and had dinner with Dawn and Stephen in Mackay in the evening. HP #34.

Climbed this peak, I think in the summer of 2003. Great scramble, and a nice snow bridge to cross.

I made my 27th ascent yesterday under near perfect conditions. The only thing that kept it from being perfect was the poor visibilty from the annual burn-up of the western U.S. There is a short section of snow on the small saddle at the end of C.O. ridge but otherwise the trail is dry.

Climbed it back in 2006, forgot to sign the log. Was my first Highpoint and was very scary. I am a big wuss, but I made it along with my wife and brothers and sister in law. Very fun, but probably won't do it again!

The standard route is a blast! Chicken Out proved to be a little hairy than I expected with several narrow snow crests to cross. Lots of fun class 3 rock too.

I hiked up Borah after spending the night at the trailhead back in 1998. I had spent the week before in the Winds, so I was well acclimatized, and I had a fast time for me. I was surprised at how much junk was on the summit. There was a collection of you name it. Golf clubs, flags, and all sorts of assorted crap. It was a beautiful place to be, nevertheless.
