Easy Walk Up  Sucess!

I've made the easy, mostly paved path to the summit several times. Being up there after a big ice storm has to be my favorite time spent on the mountain top. The scenary is unique from any other time of the year, and I was the only one up there at the time.

Route Climbed: Jack's Knob Trail  Sucess!

Climbed from Jacks Gap to the parking area with my mom and my little cousin where we met the rest of our family. From there they all took the shuttle to the top while I walked up the path. It was cloudy at first but as we headed back down the clouds lifted and the view was great.

Paid the $3 lazy tax and jogged up the steep but paved trail.

After a 2 1/2 day sprint from Springer to Unicoi Gap, I drove up. Unfortunately all clouded up and no views. Nice museum. I was rather nasty from the hike and my feet were killing me.

Route Climbed: Arkaquah Trail Date Climbed: May 2005  Sucess!

Doing an approach trail, such as Arkaquah Trail or Jacob's Knob make it a little more of a challenge. I did this on a clear spring day and could see all the way back to Atlanta from the summit.

Highpoint #21. This is probably one of the few two-day ascents of this mountain. We arrived a few minutes before midnight and left just afterwards, hoping to bag GA-SC-NC-TN-VA-KY in 24 hours.

Route Climbed: Jack's Knob Trail Date Climbed: June 10, 2005  Sucess!

Very foggy/drizzly day. the rhododendrons near the summit were in blume. Oddly enough, we passed no one on the trail and there was not anyone at the observation deck at the summit.

Ran up and down 4 times striaght once training for a marathon. This was when we were visiting friends who live close by, in fact ran the Hogpen Hill climb in Helen, which is a race 12 miles straight up. Back in the 1990's, took my young daughters all the time. They loved the mist and fog on the trail, early mornings. Cheers.

Only headed to the parking lot for the TOUR DE GEORGIA bike race. (Lance finished third, I think.) Late April in Georgia and who'd have guessed that there'd be snow flurries all day? I wore my shorts and Tevas, but gave up my fleece to an ungrateful woman.

Yes I'm signing the register twice! After leaving the summit and getting ~40 miles toward Atlanta, I realized that my sunglasses were still on Georgia's highest point. Even though they're "cheapos", I always have a hard time finding ones that don't make me look like a bug. Begrudgingly, I drove back up as darkness was fast approaching. Happy to find the lower gate still open, I jogged up through the rain to find my glasses exactly where I thought they would be!

A quick jog up the trail to find the tower fenced off. I climbed up a crumbly & mossy Class 3 dihedral on the north side of the summit to reach the top.
