Bright Angel Trail

[ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Bright Angel Trail
About .35 miles from the trailhead and 200 vertical feet below the rim, looking northwest across to the North Rim. 23 December 2009.

In the center of the photo, Brahma Temple (left) and Zoroaster Temple (right) have emerged from their shroud of post-storm clouds. At 7551 feet and 7123 feet, both of these features are several hundred feet below the elevation of the North Rim in the background, but they are both higher than the trailhead above me, which is at about 6860 feet.

Throughout the canyon, the recent snow had fallen to just below the 5000-foot level, so this fact can be used to get an idea of the relative elevations of some things over on the north side. (Click on the photo to see the larger size.)
