Because it's there...  Sucess!

I smile when I remember that the reason people put their lives on the line to summit Mt Everest is the same reason I diverted my journey to Pensacola to include this out-of-the-way state highpoint. Visiting Florida in November is a good idea and this is just the kind of quirky stop-off I love to include in my road trips.

Grabbed this one as part of a family road trip to texas. What can I say it was hot and there was a lot of mosquitos.

Into Thick Air  Sucess!

Was hoping for some relief from the heat and humidity at the summit, but alas, no luck. I did enjoy the solitude and did a lap on the trails that start behind the stone monument. #45 for me. Hard to believe this counts the same as Granite and Gannett!

Third in three days  Sucess!

#31 HP for me. #15 for Lillian. Took a while to get down here from NE Mississippi. Yes, on this trip the endurance was all about staying alert at the wheel of the rental car. Nice granite monument. Didn't stay long as we wanted to get to Pensacola Beach for lunch on the beach deck!

This was part of a weekend doing Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama... not the most exciting but better than sitting around the house!

HP #24  Sucess!

Flying to Paris today. Had from 8 pm on may 4, til 3:15 pm on may 5 with nothing planned. So I made the drive to Lakewood, FL to bag this monster. Haha :) Love every highpoint adventure and the random places it takes you. Must say though that I'm thoroughly enjoying the sunrise at Lake Jackson in Florala, Alabama.

Highpoint #6  Sucess!

After a long drive from Birmingham I bagged this mighty beast and stayed long enough to take a picture of the sign, I will say it again though that every high point is a thrill in itself as I traveled from Connecticut to bag this one!!

Not much of a hill even but a nice area. Doesn't look much like the rest of Florida.

HP #1 - Start Small  Sucess!

Memorial Day Weekend - good stop on the way to the beach. Highlight of this stop is the clean, open restrooms. Given its stature, Florida has actually taken good care of this point of interst - it is well marked, clean and accessible.

Historical note: the dense yellow pine harvested here was used to make floor-boards in Grand Central Station (according to the article posted at the site).

HP #28  Sucess!

I visited this highpoint with my son Lance during a southern states road trip. Up until this point in time, the only other state highpoint he has done with me is Mt. Elbert, CO. We plan to do 4 more during the coming week.
