Route: Easy Side Cross-Country

This was pretty much straight-up talus climbing the entire way. GREAT views from the top, though, especially of McLoughlin (you'll have to summit and then climb slightly down the north side of the mountain to get a good view).

Unless you like hopping on rocks for hours on end, though, I'd recommend trying this mountain out in the winter, maybe with snowshoes.

If you love rocks, you'll love Brown Mountain. I came in from the Lake of the Woods side and pretty much ran strait up the boulder fields then back down. Round trip was less than 2 hrs, but that was as fast as I could go. I wish I had done this one in the winter.

Pat and I headed out from the Summit Sno-Park on snowshoes in windy, snowy weather at 0745. We went up the north side and reached the summit at 1045, where we stripped down to T-shirts and had lunch in the sunshine above the storm. We were back to the car at 1:00.

scrambled up the lava rock from the east. slow going... a pain in the a@# really. obviously this would be much better once it's completely covered in snow, but I still wanted to knock it out since I was there.

SP'er Bob Bolton and I went up from the east side on a route that was totally cross country. This area has real potential for ankle or leg injuries so I wouldn't want to solo the terrain. This was a good time of year to do this one as there were no bugs or heat to deal with.

A nice hike on a beautiful day. Snowshoes helped a lot.
