Buckhorn Wash Pictographs

The "holes" in the figures were intentionally pecked out; no one really knows why. Some have speculated that there may have been human sacrifice and that these images suggest the release of the spirit upon death. Others wonder if the artist made the holes to release the power of the art. Some figures here were painted yellow over the original red. Again, no one knows why, nor does anyone know who did it or when. San Rafael Swell, Utah
