Buds of May Lily

Buds of May Lily

The May Lily (Maianthemum bifolium, Polish: Konwalia Dwulistna) is also known as the False Lily of the Valley. It can be found in all pine and deciduous forests of the Low Beskid and Bieszczady Mountains. The plant likes damp soils and blooms from April to July. Its flowers are star shaped and white. The leaves are heart to triangular shaped and have small fine hairs on the veins. Berries of May Lily (with one of two seeds inside) are speckled red when immature and redden with age.
