Bulgaria’s Hoodoos

Bulgaria’s Hoodoos
This minute town of Melnik, at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, near the Greek border, apart from the local wine, boasts exemplary badlands scenery, which results from rainfall cutting through the loosely cemented sandstone and conglomerate. Some fine hoodoos, wearing erosion-resistant boulder caps, can be spotted in the vicinity of Rozhen Monastery.

Last but not least, views of "badlands" provide a fantastic illustration of how mountain ridges, towers and valleys are moulded by erosion.

Jacek, I was just wondering how many different
languages you are familiar with. Do you visit
Bulgaria quite often???

I would of never have guessed that these
wonderful hoodoos could be found in Bulgaria.
Thanks for sharing this image with us!!!

Couldn't agree more – as hot as AZ in summer (although pale orange rather than red), quite educational and unclimbable! Thanks for taking a look. Hiss hello to your otter for me!

Delighted you like it, Jim. If you ever meet Liba in the Sandia Widerness, please say hello - or rather "ahoy!":) as she's Czech - to her for me.
Cheers,
Jacek

Hvala Borut; I wonder if Slovenia, which seems to have everything, has any landscapes like this.:)
