| We actually thought we were in Basin Canyon until we began the descent. The hike was a little harder as a result due to more bushwacking and mileage but still not bad. The view from the summit is great and Kingston Canyon is cool. Fun day. | ||

| beautiful area and a nice hike. 2nd peak of day so just made it back to my truck as got dark. took standard route. tried the basin canyon, but after 1/3 mile the road side was eroded away into stream. a quad would make it, but not my truck. | ||

| Started climb from about 1/4 mile into Sawmill Canyon (about as far as my truck would go). First walked up canyon bottom for about a mile, then hiked up sagebrush slope on south side of canyon to rock formations on top of ridge. From there it was a straight shot up the ridge line to the saddle on the north side of Bunker Hill and then up the steep scree slope of Bunker itself. Great views from the top, and from the register I gather not many attempt this peak. Seems most of the locals enjoy these mountains from the seat of their ATV's, which you can see crawling relentlessly along the roads below as you climb. | ||

| A Bit | Basin Canyon ![]() Date Climbed: Jun 7, 2008 | |
| Drove about 1.5 miles up the canyon to where the road ended. The switchbacks up the hill had been covered by landslides, but once up that hill the trail reappeared. Forgot to bring a new logbook & sure enough the old one that was placed in May 1984, is down to 1/2 a page. | ||

| Parked at Kingston Creek and hiked up through Basin Canyon, following first a road and then an old pack trail that switchbacked up to the ridge. Still quite a lot of snow--we had to posthole to work our way up to the main summit ridge, and from there it was a straightforward, though steep, trudge to the summit. | ||

| Camped at the Kingston Campgroud and drove to elevation point 9335, side hilled over to the saddle. Took 2:15 to the summit and 1:10 back to car. Great weather since I was out of the sun in the early morning. Then it was off to Jefferson. Was very surprised on how many people were at the campgrounds. | ||

| Great climb with Dean. Lots of animal "sign" on the mountain. In other words, Watch Where You Step. Lots of sidehilling to get over to Bunker Hill itself. | ||

| Dennis Poulin and I were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this area as well as the peak itself. The term "hill" is rather misleading as this "hill" is over 11 thousand feet high and has some nasty scree to deal with at a fairly steep angle (not apparent in the photos). We met a group of Las Vegas Mountaineering club members as we descended, a rare event as only a few parties climb this peak each year. Oct 3, 2004 | ||

| Took me almost 8 hours due to snow and route variations. Should take an average hiker in non-snow conditions about 4-6 hours. | ||
