Burgundy Spire

Burgundy Spire

Burgundy Spire from the west - specifically a "bench" at about 6400' below the west base of the Wine Spires. In foreground is (hard to make out) Paisano Pinnacle. The gully terminating at the col (7900') on the left provides standard access to the start of the North Face route (II+, 5.8). The summit was not to be ours on this outing (August 15, 2004).

Re: Ran out of time?

...more like "desire". Plan was to hike up and bivy at col (7900'?) then climb on Sunday. Got caught in a shower on the way up at the 6400' bench. Decided to bivy there. Woke up on Sunday (not too early), looked up at the 1500' gully remaining bet. us and start of climbing and just did not feel like doing it.......severe laziness attack I guess :(

next time we'll do it as a day climb - have little desire to haul the overnight gear all the way up that steep trail.
