6000m Club!  Sucess!

Wanted to climb Chachani, but didn't want to pay S./ 250 for a guided trip. Followed this great report & managed to do it for S./ 11! However, this route is definitely not for the inexperienced. Should have started earlier and camped higher at Pampa Grande (we camped at 4,600m). Very long summit day, the ridge up was relentlessly steep. Summited just before sunset having started at 7:30am. Arrived back to camp 1:50am! 2 nights spent on the mountain, both at 4,600m at a good camp there, but highly recommend using Pampa Grande camp at 4,900m~ instead. Couple of updates: Alfredo's hut is sadly now derelict & there was no snow on the mountain during our ascent, only a few penitentes and some ice in shaded areas near the summit. Also, I had the elevation of the start point as around 3,400m on my GPS and (digital) map. I have posted a full report with GPS file elsewhere online.

Lots of gain!  Sucess!

Climbed with Tim, fellow SPer, for a new approach to Chachani for us both. Weather was great, had a good climb even though we returned in the dark which was a bit confusing at times.
