Snow started at 5700', and made the day tougher, but the scenery (with clouds below) was memorable.

I thought I was in good shape until a few miles into this hike. I was carrying supplies for another hiker and myself, so my pack weighed in at 45lbs. My legs felt it all the way up. Great sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit!

You need to bring lots water! We had two 200plus guys drink 7 liters of water getting to the tram. We left the Museum parking lot at 5 AM. Tried to summit up old trail up Tamarack Valley following stream. Lost trail in slush, downfall, etc. Still a great day!

Did Cactus to Cloud up and back. I hiked with other 10 hikers, everyone took cable car down, but I ran down all the way back to the car.
The last 1,500 ft to the peak was all covered with snow and we didn't have any snow gear. But, we made it.
26 miles and 11,800 ft total elevation gain. Took me 15 hours including long lunch break at cable car station and peak.
Great hike. I will do it again !

What a great hike! It's been marked one of the most difficult day hikes by Backpacker, but it was a nice grade all along and really well beaten. Easy pace with outstanding views, the only issue came past the tram when I was surprised by untrampled snow to the peak. Started at 5 something in the morning and was a step above the heat the whole time.

W/ Brent. Started at 4:30 a.m., reached the Mt. San Jacinto summit at 2:14 p.m. Perfect weather. Caught the 5 p.m. tram down and were offered and accepted a ride back to our museum-parked car from a gracious couple who just happened to be driving a 325i Beemer. Is there any better way to bring this hike to a conclusion?

Cactus to Clouds out and back from Museum Drive. The descent to Long Valley was equally as punishing as the ascent. IMHO, Long Valley to the summit was annoyingly indirect with long meandering, switchbacks (a la Whitney Main Trail). Finished in 12:45.

Wow! Long & brutal hike, but very rewarding! Didn't have any route-finding issues until near the top, where it looks like a large rock & tree slide destroyed the trail, but it's so near where you top out, it's easy to tell where you need to be.

I think this is what turned me to technical climbing - after walking up 10000 ft you gotta do something else for fun. Gorgeous day though.

Great for a long day hike that seems to go up for a long time. Left the museum parking lot at 3AM, was on the summit at 10AM and back to the tram by a little before noon. Great hike, but could have used a few more hikes before doing that first 8000 feet to the tram!

Took up a group of 9 successfully. Our first time. With consistent pace, not too bad. I took a heavy pack which made it a bit more challenging, but the biggest issue is, how the hell do I eat enough to replenish all that energy burnt?! Over 5000 calories plus regular intake needs = 8000. And for that day I probably had 3000, 2000 before finishing the hike. No wonder I starting bonking at the peak!

Long day but very fun. Hardest part seemed to be the tram to the summit.

...and I'm always glad I can sneak down the tram to save my poor knees from the descent :)

Did this route a few times...good work out. Enquire about snow conditions as it can be dangerouslty icy when you get close to the tram station...if it is the case bring crampons.

1st attempt. Got an earlier than planned start due to a "wakeup" call from The Man. Sure was beatiful under the full moon! The hike from the Tram to the summit was a relative cakewalk. The bike ride back to the museum, however, was definitely 5th class.....
