Been up Shasta twice, summited once. Awesome place, soaring to the heavens in otherwise generic surroundings. Best distant view is from the northeast, coming south. I could have stared at it for hours on my move back to Texas. Great mountain.
Oregon and Washington's Cascade volcanoes may be greater in number and appreciated by folks far and wide, but we here in California have our own volcanic history which includes the beautiful areas around Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen. I'm grateful to have visited this neck of the woods since my earliest days and to have visited the tops of many of the beautiful mountains here.
