California Condor

California Condor
California Condor in Sespe Wilderness near Ojai California July 4, 2004. We encountered this guy sitting on a fire tower. Completely un-perturbed by our approach, #67 here seemed to enjoy being the center of attention as we snapped away with our cameras. We felt privileged to see such a creature so close-up. According to CA Dept. of Fish and Game the total population numbered less than 250 in 2005. Hope he (or she) is still out there.

Can't say exactly 'cause I don't know. Was hiking with some locals who had the map. We were on a 4WD road the whole way on a 10 mile loop that started from the outskirts of Ojai & went up to a ridge that overlooked the Sespe Wilderness.
