Hasn't voted | Me too. I spent 10 nights there and experienced the most dramatic moments of my life - a hurricane force winds, thunderstorms and serious injuries of tourist on snow field near Strunga Dracului...on the other side a fantastic rainbow bridge

Voted 10/10 | Once upon a time, we had to take down our tent we'd just pitched by the tarn - the wind was too strong. Luckily, there was still some space inside the refuge although every half hour people were getting in. The best of mine are two Czech girls coming to the Caltun refuge at night. They were totally exhausted and one of them had a terrible (30-metre) fall with bad injury, when crosing the unstable snow field under Strunga Dracului. No wonder, because, she weared unsuitable tennis shoes....A Slovak hiker with very good shoes made similar fall with broken leg too.
But the most memorable moment was a hurricane force wind with my tent collapsing. It was not possible to move against this mass of air. BTW:Did you ever experienced when the lightning struck close to you? | | Posted Jul 19, 2010 3:17 am |

Voted 10/10 | Yep, those high winds seem to be typical of the Fagaras. Lightning close to me? Well, not that close but I still remember a thunderstorm roaring around while we were camping in a cirque about a mile south of Musala. But, surprisingly, the closest "encounter" was in a village just north of the Tatras - I was about to leave the cottage while lightning struck out of the blue (or rather through a vast curtain of clouds), right in the kind of lawn just outside the window. | | Posted Jul 19, 2010 5:34 am |
