Camping in Chornohora
Winter camping on the main ridge of Chornohora. Beautiful light in the morning after few days of foul weather... We were camping together with a group from Kyiv. They borrowed their skiing equipment from their mountaineering club. I tell you, every sports museum would love to get it ;-)

It's always great to see people looking for such adventure in the mountains, were you skitouring the whole main ridge ? Could you give me more details about your trip ?

We started the trip from Verkhovyna and Dzembronia. We thought we would get to the observatory in one day, but the winds were so strong and the visibility was so poor that first we had to bivouac under the summit of Smotrec and on the next day we were virtually blown down to the valley in the north. We spent that day trying to do some freeriding, because there was some pretty nice powder in the valley - the snow was blown down from the maimn ridge and it collected in the valley. Snow conditions on the ridges were really bad, there was that grey ice everywhere.
On the next days the weather turned much better, there was more snow on the main ridge (or we simply got used to those conditions).
We kept on going towards Hoverla and in two days we got from Pip Ivan to the pass with a hut on the western side of Hoverla. We split there on the next day because my buddy wanted to see some shepherds' camps in the valleys in the south and I continued the main ridge through Petros to Kvasy in one day. The weather was awful again and the downhill from Sheshul to Kvasy in the dark was really epic. My legs weren't even burning - they were completely feeble. I was exhausted when I got to the station at last.

See my movie from that trip on youtube:

Of course it shows only those better moments.
