Camping on the Ptarmigan...

Camping on the Ptarmigan Traverse has special hazards. The soil is so devoid of salt that animals crave it desperately. These deer at White Rock Lakes (at the end of Stage 3) were content to browse leaves until we wandered from camp; then they moved in to munch on pack straps and anything else salty.
