Capitol Gorge Classic

Capitol Gorge Classic

"A voice in the wind I do not know; A meaning on the face of the high hills Whose utterance I cannot comprehend. A something is behind them: that is God." As seen in 1982, Capitol Gorge cuts through the Waterpocket Fold inside Capitol Reef National Park. These lofty, orange-red cliffs are remnants of ancient sand dunes appearing 180 to 225 million years ago in south-central Utah. The Waterpocket Fold measures 100 miles in length but is only a few miles in width. Weathering has removed many thousands of feet of younger material that once buried the sedimentary rocks now forming the backbone of the Fold.
