BKiser90Wonderful Spring Hiking  Sucess!

My wife and I headed down here after Memorial Day. Since it was our first trip, we stuck to the Fruita area. Many great vistas. A hidden gem is the viewpoint on the Old Wagon Road Trail. Great panorama of the Waterpocket Fold.

Went down to the Field Station with an educational group and mostly just hiked around. We arrived then hiked to some petroglyphs and water tanks at night on Mon., then to Hickman Bridge and the Rim Overlook on Tues., then the Fremont River trail and to a some petroglyphs and Pleasant Creek in the valley below the station on Wed., then packed up and left Thurs. morning. This is an amazing and magical place, with some of the best scenery anywhere, and the stars are simply indescribable. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for solitude and unparalleled natural beauty.

So much to see in this area. Like a couple of other Utah parks, if you've been to all the places listed in the park literature, you've only scratched the surface.

Plenty to do here. Favorite areas include Wolverine Petrified Wood area, the main southbound road in the park, and most especially the magnificent Burr Trail road running from near Ticaboo Resort over Waterpocket Fold and on to Boulder, Utah.

Jimmy Rivers

Another beautiful Utah Nat'l Park, which is often overlooked in favor of Bryce and Zion. I was here as a kid with the family. We visited every Nat'l Park in the four corner region, and it shaped my view of the Nat'l Park system in general. I will visit again sometime soon.

Camped at Fruita, which was a bit of a surprise for me. But on the following day, had to high-tail it from there due to diluvian rain. I was one of the last ones out on Utah HWY 12 before they shut it down in both directions. Water was storming out of the mountains

I've made numerous trips to Capitol Reef, this being my favorite of all the red rock parks in Utah because it is the least visited. I have been north, south, east and west in the park and have done several of the hikes and a some of the slot canyons and yet I feel like I've hardly seen the place. A friend and colleague of mine is the great grandson of Elijah Behunin, one of the first settlers in the region and the builder of the Behunin cabin that still sits in the park.
