Capulin Volcano
4/9/2024: I got up early and climbed Capulin Volcano and hiked La Boca Trail before work.
3/20/2024: After work Kim and I climbed Capulin Volcano, hiked into the crater, and climbed Mud Hill Volcano.
3/5/2024: After work I hiked Capulin Volcano.
2/29/2024: I had to be in Trinidad in the morning so I woke up early in order to climb Capulin Volcano as soon as it opened.
2/13/2024: After work I climbed Capulin Mountain and then around sunset the Lava Flow Trail and part of the Boca Trail. The trails are supposed to be closed after dark so that's all I had time for. I saw lots of deer on the mountain.
1/29/2024: Early and before work I climbed Capulin Volcano on a nice morning.
1/23/2024: Early in the morning and before work I climbed Capulin Mountain. The frost was a bit icy, but that was the only difficulty.
12/17/2023: I had to travel to Trinidad Colorado for work so in the afternoon I hopped the border to New Mexico and climbed Capulin Volcano. I also hiked to the bottom of the crater. Since the national monument Trails close at 4:15 PM that's all I had time for.

Surprisingly Spectacular
I had driven by this peak many times and had not taken the time to stop at the National Monument. Very nice place to learn and take a short hike.

Golden hour
Caught the pre-sunset light after doing Sierra Grande earlier in the day. Nice, quiet walk around the rim, not too many people. Sweet spot!

On the Way Home
Hiked all the trails at Capulin on the way home from Black Mesa. It is a wonderful little monument with beautiful 360 degree panoramas. Don't forget the trails at the base of the volcano. They are short and cover some fun terrain.
Came here once before and it was socked in. Today, the sky was clear and it was pretty breezy at the top. Hiked the paved rim trail and got pretty nice views in all directions. Well worth the hike. The $15 vehicle entry fee seemed a bit steep though for such a small park.

Interesting Formation
Did this alongside: Baby Capulin, Twin Peaks. Walked the rim. Cool day. Would definitely go back.
After three other stops here, twice very late in the evening and once in heavy snow, I finally made it here while the gate was open. Great trail up top, and another one into the cone. Lovely.

A quick stop on our cross country drive. I made a point of adding this to our itinerary once I discovered it was a national monument.

Crater Rim
I first wished to hike from base to summit, but instead of doing a road walk, I lazily drove up the volcano and walked the crater rim. Great landscape here.
Nice hike around the rim in November - warm but not summer hot. Be sure to go down into the caldera too.

I hiked this one with crutches and an ankle compression boot while my wife waited in the car in the upper parking lot.

Stopped by on my way to Amarillo. Walked the Crater Rim Trail and the Crater Vent Trail. Beautiful views, and nice to learn about the geology of the area.

Just a paved trail!From the parking lot, did the loop trail around the rim, hitting the high point along the way. At the end, also ventured down into the crater.
