... from the south. The saddle is to the left of the picture. Further away, also on the left, is Dart Glacier.
West of the saddle are gentle slopes, leading down into the Dart River valley. That's where I'm going. To the east is a sheer drop down into the Matukituki valley. Too steep to hike, which is why the Cascade Saddle route ascends the slopes of the Matukituki valley further south.
