NW Gully  Sucess!

A little grungy near the top of the gully but not too bad. Icy sections made it a little interesting.

SW Face  Sucess!

This was my second attempt and thankfully was successful as I didn't want to try a third time. First attempt was via the north face and it was absolutely miserable and then we hit snow in the gully, so turned back. The SW face was a gentle approach and then some fun scrambling up through the bushes with a few scratches. Rain was moving in so we couldn't stay long on the summit but it seems there is some sort of predator hanging around as we found the leg of an animal on the summit.

South Thorny Bush Approach  Sucess!

I thought I would tackle this one as a side trip on the way to Crested Butte. Just as many others have thought or said, I had seen it many times on the way to other peaks. It was hot and I chose to wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt for the thorns. It wasn't too bad but I still got bloodied a bit, but just not sure how. Nice views on top and I saw a golden eagle fly off the top while ascending the gully.

North slopes  Sucess!

Love, love, LOVED this little mountain! The high winds in the high country forced us low, so we visited this little peak. Yes, some of the loose screen was crappy, but what a funky little summit and what AMAZING views. Candace and I sat forever on the summit, eating lunch, relaxing, and even got to see one of the resident Golden Eagles!

NW Face  Sucess!

Climbed with Jamie up a snowy NW face, then back down the much drier SE side and contoured around on the road back to the car.

Castle Rock  Sucess!

I first came across this amazing little peak in October of 2009. I went up a steep gully on the south side that was filled with thorny bushes and loose rock and reached the ridgetop at a spot to the west of the summit. Trees obstructed the views of the summit and I could not see what laid ahead. The weather was iffy so I went down the north slopes. Later, in my pictures, I noted the slope on the north that went to near the summit but I had to wait until August of 2010 to come back to try the north face. I really enjoyed climbing Castle Rock.
