Hello!
I am writing on behalf of Utah Open Lands, the conservation group that
owns the area around Castleton Tower, on which the campground is located.
The area is becoming severely impacted, and Utah Open Lands is taking
steps to keep this place available for recreational use for future
climbers, hikers, and desert enthusiasts-- while still keeping it a fee
free campground to be used and enjoyed by many. The suggested use
guidelines can be found on the website of Utah Open Lands
(utahopenlands.org).
As of today (October 1st, 2010), Utah Open Lands is requiring campground
users to register before they visit the campground. There is no cost for
registering. All instructions for registration can be found on the Utah
Open Lands website.
If you could edit the page for Castleton Tower on SummitPost's website to
reflect this change, I would be very grateful. A basic few sentences
explaining that there is now a registration process, the website where this
information can be accessed (www.utahopenlands.org), and a gentle reminder
to all users that this area is in a delicate ecosystem that merits
conscientious use. Wag bags, stove use instead of campfires, and Leave No
Trace ethics need to be heeded to keep this area enjoyable for eveyone!
Thank you very much. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Best,
Casey O'Malley |
