We did this in blowing wet mist. Hard to see more than 50 to 100 feet, and the lichen in spots was a little slippery. Not a good descent route in these conditions. But fun on the way up.
I actually climbed this Mountain in 2002 with some friends before being deployed to Iraq. I am logging this 9 years later because I joined the highpointers club and want to log every climb on this great site as well. The only thing I can remember from the climb was that it started me on a love of hiking that has stayed with me ever since getting back from Iraq in 2004!!
We originally planned on ascending the Dudley Trail but rain and time were not our side so we went up the Cathedral Trail. Great scramble and awesome views.
Best scramble in the East Date Climbed: Jun 7, 1989
My daughter and I did this, then traversed to summit ridge, as part of our highpoint quest in the late 1980s. This climb was memorable, and the scramble up this route was certainly a big part of that wonderful memory.
So much fun! The scrambling up the three cathedrals was straightforward, yet invigorating. I can't think of a better way to get up the mountain than this route!
