Sendero Cielo   Sucess!

Dayhike, started at 6am. I passed three local guys on a three day trip who were camped at Don Tomas. Otherwise the trail was completely desolate. Though there was a small crowd around the visitor center when I got back. Finished the day off with some balleadas and a ride over to San Juan.

Sendero al Cielo  Sucess!

Pretty decent elevation gain (4754' claimed (1449m), easily over 5000' including ups and downs) for a dayhike. Not recommended as a dayhike for the average person.

About 5hrs up, 3hrs down TH to TH- but don't forget hiking, hitchhiking, or a taxi TO the park and then to the TH/visitor center (not manned while I was there).

Hardest part is before Campamento el Naranjo. Junctions are very well marked, so no worries about getting lost. No one else up there while I was there. Didn't see too much wildlife either. If you decide to camp (not really necessary) the camp spots have awnings so a tent is not really necessary. And also agree that the views are pretty underwhelming at the top.

Welcome to the jungle  Sucess!

Our guide never showed up so we walked alone. It's easy to get lost in the dense forest but we managed to get through it without too much hassle.

My 100'th mountain  Sucess!

I climbed the peak with my dad on Christmas Day and it was one of my favorite hikes ever. It was also special because it was my 100'th mountain.

Mom and Shaylee stayed down at the Campiemento Don Tomas while we summitted.

Celaque  Sucess!

It was a nice climb and was challenging enough to be rather exciting. Kessler (six years old) and I summitted on Christmas Day on day 2 of a 3 day climb (including two other summits). Kimberly (wife) and Shaylee (four years old) didnĀ“t make the final ascent of the steep headwall to the cloud-forested summit area, but Kessler and I made the summit and joined back with his mom and sister late afternoon and we had a nice Christmas celebration of sorts while camping in the rainforest.

We saw a monkey, some owls and many waterfalls. The kids had a very nice time camping in the rain forest. We also sang lots of Christmas songs and read Christmas stories.

Great climb!  Sucess!

I climbed this peak during a time when I was attempting to summit all of the Central American high points. Celaque is a beautiful climb, the cloud forest is amazing. It is unfortunate that there are no views from the top due to the thick forest cover.
