atavistAnother one down, one more to go  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 29, 2017

Started the day in Santa Rosa in neighboring Honduras. It took a surprisingly long time to cross the border and to reach the mountain, about 6 hours. When I finally got to the top of El Pital there was a heavy fog and light rain. From the main camping ground, there were hundreds of people if not more, many restaurants even an active zip line. But the path to the actual summit was not well marked and I had to wander around a bit to make sure I found it. Then after a few minutes on top I left. I crossed two more national borders before settling down in Chiquimula in Guatemala.

I climbed the peak from Rio Chiquito with Shaylee (my four year old daughter), Kessler (my six year old son) and Kimberly (my wife).

Since the top is in both countries and a monument marks the border, Shaylee wanted to eat lunch in El Salvador, Kessler wanted to eat lunch in Honduras, Kim ate lunch in both counties and I paced all over the place all over the top. We completed the round trip on summit day in six hours. It was a steep eight miles round trip, but Shaylee was on a mission to prove that she is as tough as her brother.

Reached the summit on my 23rd birthday. But man..getting to Pital is a lot more work than actually hiking to the top. Was not sure if it was the top until we asked like 10th person who finally confirmed that we, indeed, reached the top of El Salvador.

A little cloudy while on the summit but a beautiful sunset while hiking down. Fortunately got a ride most of the way back to town else it would have been pretty late before beer time!

I climbed the peak with my father, mother and sister Shaylee. It was a lot of fun and I liked choosing which country to eat lunch in while on the summit.

Brett AMy First National Highpoint!
Although not impressive in its height, this was still an interesting climb. I missed the last bus up to the pass, but a very nice group of Salvadorans gave me a lift in their private van. I met up with a mysterious German girl as I was hiking so we joined forces. After summiting, we went to search for La Piedra Rajada, which is a huge rock outcropping separated from the bulk of the mountain by a huge abyss, only accessible via one of two scary-as-hell log bridges. I did this trip on my 2.5 month expedition through Guatemala, EL Salvador, Honduras, and Southern Mexico

Looks like Christian and I have hiked a lot of the same peaks. This is one of the most disappointing hikes in Central America due to the fact that you can drive to about 150 vertical feet of the summit.

ChristianRodriguezRe: El Salvador highpoint = LAME

Hi Blong, with a salvadorian guy, discover a new route, really awesome, beauty and hard route. From San Ignacio to a town named EL ROSARIO (Honduras side), from this point climb to COYAGUANCA rocks, next into the mid-virgen jungle to the top. 8 hours as minimun to the summit in complete natural environment. Very steep and some part rockclimb is needed.
