Silver mountain  Sucess!

We didn't fancy the tour in the mines so we climbed the summit instead. It's about 2.5 hours walk from the main square to the top. Fantastic views all along the way. A unique mountain, you'll meet plenty of friendly workers along the way.

Just go up, bring a lamp if you want to check out abandoned mines near teh top with arched entries of rock, possiblky much older mines built by spanish. Lots of snow when I climbed it and not much view, still very interseting and worth wile. After all it is one of the most famous hills in teh world and had an unmesuarable amount of influence in the development of Andian South America

Definetly take a tour of the mines, only cost about 5 dollars and is incredible, both the adventure of it aswell the culture and history. I recomend William with Marco Polo Tours on street below La Casa de Moneda

Route Climbed: from downtown Date Climbed: 21st May 2005

Took about 2hr 45min to reach the summit from the main square of Potosi. The jeep tracks, white cairns, walking path are confusing at times. But just follow any upwards and it should be fine. Potosi is a really unique city.
