Chapin from Alluvial Fan

Chapin from Alluvial Fan

Most photos of Mount Chapin (RMNP) show it at the left-hand side of the Chapin-Chiquita-Ypsilon group. I like this angle from Alluvial Fan in Horseshoe Park because it isolates Chapin from the other two. This angle also shows the long east ridge approach described in Lisa Foster's guidebook. The much more common route from the Chapin trailhead on Fall River Road (mostly behind the mountain from this picture) is a conga line of hikers in summer. August 2009.
