Fun Trip
Camped at the lake for a few days and decided to do this. Fun day trip.

Beautiful day
Hiked this with my husband and 11-month-old son in magnificent weather. Beautiful wildflowers along the way and saw Hood, St. Helens, Adams and Rainier from the summit!

Nice evening
Climbed from Herman Creek trailhead up the PCT. Strung my hammock in the trees on the leeward side of the mountain and spent a nice night out.
We could see Hood, Jefferson, Adams, St. Helens, and Rainier from this little mountain. The view of Mt. Hood is amazing, and I vowed to myself that the next time I came to Oregon I would climb it.
I day-hiked from Eagle Creek Trailhead to Chinidere Mountain to Ruckel Creek Trail back to car. I took 10 hours total and went approx 25 miles. Beautiful views of other northwest mountains.

Great View
This is a nice hike to take friends and family who don't do a lot of Mountain Climbing or Hiking. Given the road to Wahtum Lake is open. The views are more expected once you reach the top. On a clear day you can see 5 or 6 different peaks.
Indian pits and a great rock to lay down and look over the edge. I love this area of the gorge. If you continue north down the PCT, you get great views of Tomlike, only a short hike from Chinidere.

Did this one after doing Lookout Mt. earlier in the day. This a fun, short but fairly steep hike with a cool summit. 4 other people on the summit when I arrived. Perfect weather, clear but not too warm. Fun hike.

My sister and two youngest daughters and I climbed this in about 1 1/2 hours this time. I didn't have an injured leg, but it was cold and so windy at the top we couldn't even get any good photos it was hard to even stand. Ate our lunch quickly and ran back down fast to the car. If we'd have stayed just an hour longer on the summit we'd have had a great view of Mt. Saint Helens spewing steam and ash after a quake in the crater. We heard about it after on the news...poor timing I guess :-(

My two daughters (14 & 10) and I made the trek up to the summit on a beautiful sunny day. I was very cold in the am we started about 10:30, but warmed up pretty quickly. We tried bushwacking around the lake, over log falls etc for about an hour. I fell off one log face first and got a huge goose egg on my right leg below the knee, so back to the main trail and on up the mountain. I now have a dinner plate sized bruise all the way down my right leg.
It's a pretty easy climb for the first part then steeply climbs up the last bit, but to views so well worth it. My daughters were very impressed with the view, and I tried to get some decent photos.
Interestingly just like another climber we saw a bear on our way to Wahtum lake also, standing right in the middle of the road. We thought it was a big black garbage back at first until it turned to look at us, then ran off into the forest. A really cool experience.
The bear grass was in bloom as were many, many wildflowers at the summit and the first good viewpoint just beneath the summit. An awsome hike we WILL do again!

From wahtum lake, this is one ridiculously easy summit. However, this was one of the most enjoyable hikes I've done in Oregon, mostly due to the abundant 4th class climbing options provided by the cliffs to the SW of the summit. At first I took the easiest route I could find up the cliffs which was low class 4, and then came back for a more difficult route which was probably class 5. tons-o-fun! Tried to loop the hike with Tomlike mountain, but the trails through the forest were too snowy, which was ok, as it gives me a good excuse to head back later!

One of my favorite easy summits
This is a wonderfully beautiful place. Saw one patch of snow in Mid-June, enough to throw snowballs. Beautiful views in all directions.

Took my brother on this hike hoping to get him hooked on hiking. If this hike didn't work nothing will. Hiked on a weekday so we had the mountain all to ourselves. Wildflowers in full bloom- tons of Indian paintbrush, Lupine, and Flox. Weather was great (warm but not hot ) and the view was amazing. It was a very clear day and we could see all 5 peaks. Coming back down when we passed the lake again we saw a bald eagle fishing in the lake. It couldn't have been better.

Hiked/scrambled up the Ruckel Ridge Trail to Benson Plateau, crossed the plauteau to the PCT, and followed the PCT to Chinidere. 22 miles round-trip, about 8.5 hours. Was greeted by horizontal rain on the summit. Absolutely no views.
A challenging day-hike, and pretty tough on the knees. Taking the rough and very cool Ruckel Ridge route up to the plateau makes this trip more of a "climb," as the ridge has some class 2-3 sections with some minor exposure.

Hiked up in under an hour from the trailhead. Hardest part was figuring out which trail to follow, there's quite the maze of them. Fun log crossing in the stream.

I had a bear run in front of my truck on the drive in to Wahtum Lake. I hiked this on a somewhat damp day, and had absolutely no views. I took the long way home and did Tom Dick, and Harry which also had no views on the way. The summit area was kind of neat, but would have been neater with a view.
After doing Tomlike the day before and camping at Wahtum Lake, I hit this one before descending the PCT back to my truck which was parked at the Herman Creek TH. NIce wildflowers, and an excellent view of Hood and Jefferson. clouds to the north blocked the Washington peaks.
I found it quite ironic that I did this one exactly one year ago.

Hiked up this on a solo backpack trip of the classic Eagle Creek,/Ruckel Creek loop. Nice area, very worthwhile side trip if in the area. Lots of snow on the trail still in mid May. Interesting Indian pits on the summit. Great views of Adams and Hood.
